How hobbies can keep anxiety at bay

Military spouses often face unique challenges, including frequent moves, long deployments, and the stress of supporting their partners through the demands of service.

These challenges can lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness, which can have a negative impact on mental health.

No needles knitting has been shown to have a calming effect on the mind and body, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. By focusing on the repetitive motion of knitting, military spouses can find a sense of peace and relaxation, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

This can be especially helpful during long deployments or periods of separation, when feelings of loneliness and anxiety are more pronounced.

By incorporating a no needles knitting hobby into their routine, military spouses can take positive steps towards maintaining their mental health and well-being.

The military lifestyle and me

The military lifestyle is tough. I don’t think people realise quite how tough it is.

I found it far tougher living off camp. The support network wasn’t there any more, and I had to make a real effort to settle. This is where I found no needles knitting to be invaluable. It became my rock, something I could depend on and come back to when I wanted to.

No needles knitting is a wonderful hobby that can help military wives to combat loneliness and isolation. It provides not a creative outlet and a sense of purpose.

Moreover, the mindfulness and relaxation that come with it can also serve as a therapeutic tool for mental well-being.

As I learnt more no needles knitting techniques, I became more confident in myself. I wore my projects and got a lot of compliments, which prompted me to make some items for friends and family.

But what I still find missing is a space for social connection and community support.

Online communities are ideal for social connection and support. In this day and age we are scattered all over the country, possibly the world. We need those connections and that support to thrive.

And that is what is missing in a lot of people’s lives. Connection and support.

My plan is to set up an online community for no needles knitters who want a sense of community and support. They want people to talk to and connect with. People who get where they are coming from.

I truly believe that we can find comfort in the shared experience of no needles knitting and the friendships that arise from it. And online communities can really help to make this a reality.

I am setting up my Raffy & Bee Crafters Community for this reason. To have a space place to discuss things that are important to you. To learn new no needles knitting techniques. But most importantly, to make new friends. Friends who you can be yourself with, and who will not judge you.
